I take a ton of photos and usually they remind me of great places I have had food so I dug up some old photos and thought I'd share this place for my curious readers. Here's a place that is known for their tender and flavorful BBQ pork and their Beef Chow Fun among many things. Nothing beats a simple BBQ pork with rice and a side of Beef Chow Fun. Pleasures in life....

Dim Sum at Maxim in Hong Kong

Maxim is a pretty popular brand in Hong Kong that many locals go for comfort and for the food of course. They serve relatively unique dim sum items that you wouldn't normally find at other places. Dim sum has gotten so big that in order for places to differentiate themselves they spin off original classics to fresher up the options. This place serves dim sum both the new and old school way. Old school way means they have old Asian ladies strolling carts around for customers to pick their dim sum. The new way is just simply ordering your dim sum on a piece of paper and they'll come straight out of the kitchen.

I have been to this location couple times whenever I visit Hong Kong and it's pretty decent in options. Here are the list of a few items we ordered. If you haven't ate yet, be prepared to get hungry after looking at these photos! Please share if you like it!

Using iPad to order Sushi!!!

Technology these days are making dining experiences much more entertaining and easier than before. There's a sushi bar in Hong Kong called "Itamae-Sushi" that serves decent sushi and uses iPad to order! Yes, it's probably not the first restaurant to do so but it's pretty neat. This place gets pretty packed during the peak hours so there's something popular about this joint. It's more or less probably because of the freshness of their seafood as they display in front of you the seafood you are about to consume or at least sometimes. It's not the best I have had so it's not a must-try in my books but worth a look for the curious ones. They have many locations throughout Hong Kong and some other locations worldwide as well.

Line up for Delicious N' Bouncy Fish Balls/Slices Noodle Soup!

I was rather disappointed in the fish balls that were offered in Taiwan and was reminded how much better it was in Hong Kong. My parents took me to a place that they thought offered decent fish balls. I trust their judgment since they are very selective eaters. Also it makes it a LOT easier when you see a line up just to get seated at this place. It's called Tak Cheong Noodle or in Chinese (德昌鱼蛋枌).  They display a lot of rolls of Fish logs that will be cut into slices for you to eat which is usually accompanied with some soup noodles.  Basically you come here for Fish ball/slices noodle soup with a side of Fried Fish skin. It's quite the comfort food and sadly it's just not available or close to being decent in the United States.

As you all probably know, Hong Kong's real estate is super expensive and yes you'll most likely have to share a table with complete strangers. It's quite normal in Hong Kong. This usually happens when you eat in a small group where there's free seats for the taking for strangers to join you. It also doesn't really help when they aren't very socialable and just keep to themselves; usually makes for some awkwardness at the table but Hong Kong is a fast city and people just come for the food and leave on the double to their next destination (probably another place to grab another small bite or drink).

I got the standard  Fish ball/slice combo with wide rice noodle and also some Pork balls. I love Pork balls. If you have never heard of them, you should try it some time (provided you eat Pork). Full of flavor and just goes very well with soup noodle. For only 26 HK dollars or about  ~3.50 US dollars you can get a bowl of Fish balls/slices noodle soup. So cheap! Aside from fast food like McDonalds, it's really hard to get something decent at these prices. I'll be sure to be making a stop here next time I am there. It's in Kowloon City, Hong Kong. Closest MRT station would probably be Lok Fu.

Seafood in Kowloon City

My Aunt took me to another delicious place for seafood and it was located in Kowloon City. Unfortunately there's no English name for this one so you'll need to just rely on Google Maps and look for the front entrance! I come here basically every time I visit Hong Kong because we know the chef and he does amazing wonders to his creations. It's not too well known as it's still a relatively new restaurant but I don't mind as long as I can enjoy delicious seafood at a good price and don't need to wait!

We started off with cold and marinated Jelly fish noodles. It was really good and I rarely eat it because it's usually for special occasions like a wedding banquet. Next was something new that I never tried before and it was Sichuan style "Thousand Year Old Egg"! Usually if you have heard of this, it's usually black and not in this case! It's Sichuan style and it's yellow! The flavor is quite similar but it's a little more on the lighter side in terms of taste. It's quite the interesting appearance, as the "egg white" is completely clear! Learn something new everyday!

Next we ordered a steamed whole fish. I believe it was a "Strawberry Grouper". I love steamed fresh whole fish and this was no exception. It was cooked perfectly and had amazing texture and flavor. Next dish was steamed garlic infused scallops with stuffed clear noodles! That was amazing! I love clear noodles with the scallops. All the juices and flavor from the garlic and the scallop don't go to waste at all as it gets all absorbed by the clear noodles for you to enjoy!

 We also ordered Razor shell clams. This is probably my favorite place so far in terms of how it's cooked and flavored. The chef cleaned the clams very well as usually they can be quite sandy if it's not. It was black bean sauce flavored which was very well done.

Next on our list were the mandatory Mantis Prawns or in direct translation in Chinese "Pissing Prawns". It was cooked very well, they seem to always be served deep fried. That's probably the best way to get the natural flavors out I guess. This tasted similar to other seafood restaurants I been to.

Next we ordered a non-seafood dish and it was deep fried pork chunks drenched with a tomato/bbq sauce. It was pretty good. Cooked very well and flavored well. This meal would go very well with some rice.

Lastly we got some crab and a dessert. Nothing too special about those. I definitely recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area.
